What are we looking at here?  The corner of 8th and Main where the Science Center stands today.  This is 1907.  Perhaps these men are working on installing streetcar rails or maybe they are just paving the street?

As charming as cobblestone streets are, they are not friendly to runners, bikers, strollers, and almost anything else with wheels.  The difficulty of navigation and the work involved with cobblestone streets got us thinking about progress and the things we choose to let go.  Which led to this little daydream:
